ARTIST BRIEF

Local communities are the building blocks of our society, and over the past two and a half years, we have developed a new understanding about the role of the local in our lives.  The place that we live can help us to connect with others, support our mental and physical wellbeing and create frameworks that support us to show care towards our fellow human beings.

The global pandemic has forced us to reframe how we relate to our local environment, offered up opportunities to get to know our local community more deeply, and appreciate the place we live in a different way.

Celebrate Gungahlin Festival celebrates the culture, community spirit and resilience of the Gungahlin region.  As part of this year’s festival, artists of all ages, backgrounds and abilities, who live, work play  in the Gungahlin region, are invited to create an artwork which expresses what is most important to them about being part of the Gungahlin community.

Whether it’s our beautiful green spaces and nature reserves, our community infrastructure, our schools and community groups, or the incredible diversity of people, organisations and businesses that make up this wonderful region, there is so much about Gungahlin to appreciate.

Artworks can be created in any medium – including but not limited to painting, drawing, photography, digital, collage or three dimensions.  However all artworks must be submitted as a digital file, or a photograph of the original artwork.

All entries will be professionally printed and displayed as A3 sized poster prints as part of a community exhibition at Gungahlin Marketplace throughout October, to coincide with the Celebrate Gungahlin Festival.

Prizes will be awarded in three categories – under 12 years, 13-18 years, and open (19+).  Winners are chosen by a people’s choice vote, which will be announced at the conclusion of Celebrate Gungahlin Festival.
